If this is life-threatening, call 112 (national emergency) or 119 (medical emergency / ambulance) first. 112 is the national emergency number in Indonesia; 119 is the public health emergency line (PSC 119) for ambulance and medical dispatch. Make that call before you contact us. Once help is moving, message the desk and we take over the coordination around it.
What changes after hours
Three things. Fewer practitioners are available, so the realistic window lengthens and confirming an actual commitment matters more than a hopeful message. Finding an address is harder in the dark, particularly down unlit lanes where the gate looks like every other gate. And administration slows: insurer assistance lines, authorisations and guarantee-of-payment letters all take longer at two in the morning, which is exactly when a family is least able to chase them.
When a visit is not the right answer
Anything that might be life-threatening. Unconsciousness, breathing that is not normal, heavy bleeding, a seizure, signs of a stroke or heart attack, a serious crash, a suspected overdose, or severe chest pain — dial 112 or 119 and do not wait for anyone to come to the house. A practitioner arriving in forty minutes is no substitute for dispatch, and we will say so plainly rather than take the booking.
When it is a good answer
A fever that has climbed through the evening. A child who has not kept fluids down and whose parents need someone to look at them tonight rather than tomorrow. A wound that needs cleaning and dressing properly. An older traveller who has had a small fall and should be assessed but for whom a waiting room at midnight is its own risk. Vomiting that will not stop. These are the calls we take most often after dark.
Prepare the arrival before you need it
A shared location pin, a landmark, which side of the road the gate is on, a gate code if there is one, how far down the lane you are, and a phone that will be answered when someone is outside. If there are two adults, one waits at the gate with a light. If you are alone with a child, tell us — we plan the arrival differently and stay on the phone through it.
What we do
Find a licensed practitioner who can genuinely attend and confirm it by phone in Bahasa Indonesia. Relay the outline exactly as you gave it — what happened and when, age, conditions, medication, allergies — without adding interpretation. Guide the practitioner in. Stay on the thread until they are inside. If the assessment points to a facility, confirm one that can receive the case now and arrange the car.
Payment at odd hours
Expect to settle at the time. Ask for an itemised receipt and a short clinical note in English before the practitioner leaves — the note is what your insurer will want months later, and obtaining it afterwards from another country is far harder than asking while someone is standing in your living room.
The boundary, stated plainly
We do not diagnose, prescribe, treat or administer anything, we do not give first-aid instruction over the phone, and we do not employ doctors, nurses or paramedics. The practitioner who attends is not our staff. If the patient deteriorates while a visit is being arranged, stop waiting and dial 112 or 119.
We publish a directory of listed facilities that carries its source and the date each entry was checked, and we withhold any direct line that has not passed two independent sources. Capability still changes by the hour, so while a case is live we confirm by phone, in Bahasa Indonesia, instead of relying on what a page said yesterday.
What is genuinely open at three in the morning is in after-hours and 24-hour care, and what a visit to your room can handle in doctor visits to your villa or hotel.

Decide the threshold before the night
Agree, while everyone is calm, what would make you stop arranging a visit and go straight to an emergency department or dial 112 or 119. Write it down if that helps. At two in the morning, with a sick child and no sleep, people talk themselves into waiting — and a threshold agreed in advance is much harder to argue with than one being invented on the spot.
Sanur Emergency is an independent medical concierge. We are not a clinic, hospital or ambulance operator, we do not employ medical staff, and we are not affiliated with any medical facility. All clinical care is delivered by licensed providers.
