If this is life-threatening, call 112 (national emergency) or 119 (medical emergency / ambulance) first. 112 is the national emergency number in Indonesia; 119 is the public health emergency line (PSC 119) for ambulance and medical dispatch. Make that call before you contact us. Once help is moving, message the desk and we take over the coordination around it.
What narrows
Emergency departments in larger hospitals run through the night. Beyond them, the options thin considerably. Fewer practitioners are contactable for a visit, and the realistic window lengthens. Laboratories and imaging in smaller facilities frequently resume in the morning. A clinic advertising round-the-clock hours may have a doctor on call from home rather than on site, which is a different proposition when you are deciding where to take a sick child at one in the morning.
What improves
Traffic. The corridors between Sanur, Denpasar and the southern resorts that are unpredictable by day are usually clear after midnight, which occasionally makes a further-away facility the better choice than it would be at six in the evening. It is the one variable that moves in your favour overnight, and it is worth using.
What slows to a crawl
Administration. Insurer assistance lines, authorisations and guarantee-of-payment letters all take longer overnight, and it may be the middle of a working day at the insurer’s end or the middle of its night — either way the loop is slower. Deposits get requested because no guarantee is in place yet. This is precisely the hour when a family is least equipped to chase any of it, and it is the most useful thing a desk does overnight.
The calls we take at this hour
Children with fevers that have climbed through the evening. Vomiting that will not stop. Wounds from a scooter earlier in the day that have started to look wrong. Older travellers who have had a fall. Chest discomfort — which goes straight to 112 or 119, not to us. Dive-related symptoms appearing hours after a dive. Someone who simply cannot work out whether this can wait until morning, which is a fair question and one we answer by getting them assessed rather than by guessing.
What we do overnight
Answer. Take the non-clinical picture. Ring round in Bahasa Indonesia until there is a confirmed destination or a practitioner who will genuinely attend, rather than a hopeful message left somewhere. Arrange the car. Call ahead. Meet you and interpret. Handle intake and the deposit conversation. Start the insurer correspondence so it is already moving by morning. Keep relatives in other time zones informed.
What we will not do overnight
Tell you what is wrong, what to take, or whether it can wait. Talk you through first aid. Promise an arrival time in minutes. Or suggest a private car in place of dispatch for a case that needs an ambulance — at any hour, but especially at this one, when the temptation to improvise is strongest.
One piece of preparation worth more than this article
Have your location written down in a findable form before you need it: a pin, a landmark, which side of the road the gate is on, a gate code, and a phone that will be answered. In the dark, down an unlit lane, that is the difference between a practitioner arriving and a practitioner circling.
We publish a directory of listed facilities that carries its source and the date each entry was checked, and we withhold any direct line that has not passed two independent sources. Capability still changes by the hour, so while a case is live we confirm by phone, in Bahasa Indonesia, instead of relying on what a page said yesterday.
Which departments keep a night shift is in after-hours and 24-hour care, and what happens if it becomes an ambulance call in ambulance coordination in Sanur and Denpasar.

Why the hour changes the answer
The same symptom at eleven in the morning and at three in the morning can lead to different sensible actions, not because the medicine differs but because the available options do. A desk that gives you the same answer at both hours is not paying attention. We will tell you what is realistically reachable right now, including when the honest answer is that waiting until the morning gives you better options.
Sanur Emergency is an independent medical concierge. We are not a clinic, hospital or ambulance operator, we do not employ medical staff, and we are not affiliated with any medical facility. All clinical care is delivered by licensed providers.
